Indian Mound
Neighborhood Association Meeting - Third Monday of each month, 6:30 pm at The Kansas City Public Library North-east Branch (6000 Wilson)
Indian Mound is a Historic Northeast neighborhood named for its signature landmark, Indian Mound Park, where an ancient earthen mound sits near Gladstone Boulevard and Belmont Avenue and overlooks the surrounding area. The mound is widely understood to have been built by Native American mound builders nearly a thousand years ago, and it later drew local archaeological interest, including a notable 1923 excavation that reported tools and projectile points, followed by a 1937 reshaping effort supported by the Parks Board and the Works Progress Administration.
Today, Indian Mound is a close-in neighborhood framed by Gladstone Boulevard (north), Belmont Avenue (east), Independence Avenue (south), and Jackson Avenue (west), with everyday life tied to the parks and school campuses that surround it. Residents also benefit from nearby green space including Budd Park and the east entrance to Cliff Drive, and the neighborhood association has helped drive ongoing improvements like repairs to the stone walls at the mound and pedestrian upgrades in local parks.
